More Plagiarism Accusations Lodged Against K-Indie Stars Hyukoh

Fast-rising South Korean indie band Hyukoh continues to become the target of plagiarism accusations from online commenters even as fans rush to their defense.

Hyukoh's songs "Panda Bear" and "Lonely" had previously been mired in a plagiarism controversy, which led the band's agency to issue an official statement refuting the accusations.

The issue reared its ugly head again this week when a new comparison video uploaded on YouTube suggests that "Panda Bear" copied the sound and chord progression from the Beach Fossils song "Golden Age," reports Allkpop.

You can watch the comparison video below and decided for yourself:

Hyukoh's detractors insist that there is a thin line between homage and outright copying another artist's work, and that Hyukoh may have well crossed that line with "Panda Bear." Critics also called on fans to be more objective in assessing the plagiarism accusations.

"I took a listen and they do really sound similar" and "Their fans are putting up infinite shields," said forum commenters on Nate, according to translation from Netizenbuzz.

But supportive fans counter that the renewed plagiarism charges against Hyukoh stem from jealous onlookers that cannot stand to see the group's rising popularity.

"People are trying so hard to bring them down now that they're popular," "They only feel the same, I don't think it's plagiarized."
