BLACKPINK Finally Speaks Out on 2ne1 Comparisons

With all the success that BLACKPINK has gathered in less than a year since their debut, YG Entertainment had definitely made the right choice when they launched the girl group back in August. Shortly after their debut, their debut singles quickly hit number one on the Billboard World Digital Songs chart making them the fastest and third Korean artist to do so after BIGBANG and PSY. Their debut single album, Square One, was definitely a success with both 'Boombayah' and 'Whistle' topping numerous local and foreign charts.

Since their debut was such a success, it only makes sense to have the girls follow up on that success and this November, the girls of BLACKPINK came marching back to the charts with their comeback single album Square Two, as reported by the Korea Times. Featuring new tracks like 'Playing With Fire' and 'Stay', Square Two proves that the girls are the next big thing in the world of Kpop.

BLACKPINK is the first girl group to be launched by YG Entertainment in the last seven years following the internationally successful 2NE1. Seven years ago, 2NE1 came and quickly changed the Kpop scene and it seems that BLACKPINK is doing the same today. The launching of BLACKPINK comes at an opportune time since 2NE1 is currently on hiatus following the drug importation scandal one of their members got involved and the recent departure of maknae Minzy.

However, while BLACKPINK is a totally different girl group, still people can't help but compare them with YG's original girl group. On this issue though, the girls of BLACKPINK finally speaks out.

"Being compared to 2NE1 is a big part of us." The girls said when asked about the differences they had with their seniors. "We don't intentionally try to be different from them. In fact, we believe they had portrayed the real colors of YG and that is why we don't want to portray a different color than them."

BLACKPINK as it turns out, does not think badly of the 2NE1 comparisons and are in fact quite accepting of it, even taking the comparisons as a complement, according to Allkpop. What's even admirable is that they only have praises to say about their seniors and that in itself is already a reason to love them.

"We believe that it is a good thing for us to follow in their footsteps as much as we're allowed to. When you see them perform, you would quickly realize that 2NE1 are experienced professionals that oozes charisma and we want to be like that too."
