Up and Close with Kang Dong-Won: His first time experience to work with teen actress in ‘Vanishing Time: A Boy Who Returned’
Kang Dong-Won has been very productive this year. Recently he talks about his new movie “Vanishing Time: A Boy Who Returned” which soon to be premiered. He shares his experence to work with a very young co-star.
Kang conducted a lot of interviews to promote his new movie. In an official press conference held by the movie production company Showbox/Mediaplex last month, he shared his experience to work with a young actress who was 20 years younger than him, Shin Eun-Soo. She is his co-star in the “Vanishing Time: A Boy Who Returned” movie.
“I like to tease her during the film set many times,” Kang said. “I want her to address me as oppa (older brother), but she keeps calling me seonbae-nim (senior).”
“Vanishing Time: A Boy Who Returned” is Shin’s first movie. Therefore, being paired as co-star with a veteran and experienced actor like Kang is an overwhelming experience for her. In another interview with MBC TV, Kang teased her to call him oppa for just once, but she still looked nervous.
The age gap between Kang and Shin made the filming to be potentially awkward, considering the Korean hierarchical culture that give very high respect to senior and experienced people. But director Uhm Tae-Hwa was able encourage Shin and ease her nervousness.
The movie tells the story of a boy who is trapped in a body of an adult after he was lost for about a week. Written and directed by Uhm, its unique story has potential to gain huge interest from young audience according to Osen.
“Vanishing Time: A Boy Who Returned” is scheduled to premiere this weekend on Nov. 16. According to Yonhap News Agency, before the movie was released domestically, its distribution rights has been sold to nine countries. Those countries purchased the distribution right after the international movie poster was released, they are United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Britain, Turkey, China, Japan and the Philippines.
