SBS new drama Legend of the Blue Sea just aired its first episode and it's already setting itself up as the next big hit after breaking the viewer ratings record set by Descendants of the Sun on its first episode.

Who can ever forget about the phenomenal Descendants of the Sun that propelled actor Song Joong Ki into Asian stardom? The series was a success both critically and with the audiences. It is also worth noting that the people behind Descendants were also the people behind the critically acclaimed film Train to Busan. Months after Descendants ended, it's safe to assume that fans have gone into withdrawal and would need a new series to fuss over. Luckily, Legend of the Blue Sea is finally here.

The anticipation and excitement for Legend of the Blue Sea has been incredibly high and for good reason. It will be Jun Ji Hyun's first starring role after giving birth to a healthy bouncing baby boy back in February. Furthermore, this will also be her first TV role after her hit My Love from the Star which she starred in alongside Kim Soo Hyun. Aside from that, Legend of the Blue Sea this will also be actor Lee Min Ho's first TV role after The Heirs and may just be his last series before he enlists for his military service next year.

Both Jun and Lee are high caliber actors who are well-loved and well-known not just in South Korea, but across Asia as well. Seeing them together in a TV series is definitely a dream come true. For weeks now, LOTBS is already being considered as the next DOTS.

According to iTech Post, Lee Min Ho said that he wishes for the series to debut at least with 12 or 13 percent viewer ratings and that he wants Legend of the Blue Sea to eventually pass 30 percent just like what Descendants did.

Thankfully, Legend of the Blue Sea's debut viewership rating exceeded Lee's expectations with 16.4%, also breaking Descendants record of 14.3%, Allkpop reports.

Things are already looking good for Legend of the Blue Sea and have already drawn positive reactions.
