BLACKPINK Is A Few Million Views Away From Joining The 100 Million Club

With the way their music videos are going, BLACKPINK is all set to join the 100 million club!

It hasn't even been a full year since BLACKPINK first debuted but their rookie status won't be stopping them from joining the ranks of highly respected artists like Girls' Generation, 2NE1, EXO and BIGBANG who all have had music videos that have reached over 100 million hits on YouTube and more. BLACKPINK's music video for their debut song "Boombayah" is currently on the verge of reaching 100 million views while Allkpop reports that the MV for their follow up song "Whistle" is already at 70 million views.

Not only that, they also just recently reached 2 million followers on Instagram.

While there are a lot of negative things that had happened in 2016, so far it had been considerably kind to the girls of BLACKPINK. But it's not just BLACKPINK though. 2016 has been quite kind to several new k-pop groups like SEVENTEEN, NCT and TWICE who also had just recently broke the record for the fastest k-pop video to reach 100 million with their MV for "TT" and have

New groups have definitely dominated the charts in 2016 with TWICE and BLACKPINK at the helm of it all. But if you have been a k-pop fan for a number of years, you would notice how nowadays, it is becoming much easier for videos and groups to become popular. You can say that this is because k-pop has become more famous now than it was before or that technological advances and innovations like the Internet have made everything easier to access.

Certainly, garnering views on YouTube was more difficult during the late 2000s and early 2010s where groups like Girls' Generation, BIGBANG, 2NE1 and a few other well established k-pop groups were the only ones able to achieve such a feat and at quite a long period of time too!

But this isn't to take away from the achievements of both TWICE and BLACKPINK though as they are the perfect examples as to how k-pop just keeps on getting better and better over the years.

Going back to BLACKPINK, "Whistle" has also been chosen by Billboard as one of their "20 Best K-pop Songs of 2016" placing at number four.

Who's looking forward to see what 2017 holds for k-pop?
