Luhan Stirs Controversy Because of His Clothing Choice + Fans Express Disappointment
Netizens worldwide have taken to Twitter to express their anger towards the Chinese pop star and former EXO member Luhan's choice of attire at an event on Monday, June 1.
The frustration and disappointment have three factors. Firstly, Muslims were offended because Luhan decided to wear the Shahada, the Muslim expression of faith ("there is no god but Allah, and Muhammad is Allah's messenger") as an addition to his clothing fashion.
As soon as the Chinese singer's footage clad in the particular shirt surfaced on the web, online users began to call out Luhan and his fashion stylist.
"Well, so Luhan has trended bcs he has decided to wear the vest and Islamic Shahada on it. Whatever his choice or [whoever his] stylist is, it is a very woefully ignorant decision to do."
"This isn't just Arabic writing. It's the Shahada, and you, a non-Muslim, don't understand how much of an attack it is to display that as the decoration."
"If you are a non-Muslim who bullies Muslims over a Luhan situation, then f**k you."
"I'm frustrated and upset that Luhan wears the Shahadah as an accessory. I don't dislike Luhan. I just want [him] to educate himself before making and wearing clothes with religious language as an aesthetic. I'm not so frustrated and upsets my faith."
The second problem critics want Luhan, and his stylist to apologize is that Muslims are not permitted to wear this holy text, and yet someone who is a non-Muslim uses it for fashion.
With this, online scrutiny against the former EXO member didn't end.
"To someone who is not a Muslim, the first cornerstone of Muslim Islam is written in the jacket of Luhan, namely 'There is no other god but Allah, and this is why Muhammad is the messenger of God,' and this is the main pillar of the Islamic vest. It says, 'There is no other God, but God.'"
"Bro, what the hell, what's the truth about these corporations and celebrities who aren't testing their shit?? Luhan had the real SHAHADA on his jacket???? Used as an AESTHETIC???"

And the third explanation for their dismay is that Luhan decided to wear this outfit in China, the country where real coverage of the Muslim genocide occurs.
"There is a Muslim genocide taking place here in China, but Luhan wants to make a fashion of our faith here."
"Chinese committed a whole MONTH genocide recently in 2019 in Uighur against Muslims, and icb ppl let Luhan march all over town with the Islamic shahadah on his jacket... I'm so furious. I'm very furious."
"What more sickens me off is Luhan's permission to walk around with his Shahada on his jacket, but Muslims in China can not even convey and express their religious belief???"
As a direct consequence, many united supporters are now contacting Luhan and his company to respond to this fiasco.
"This man disregarded our belief??? How could he???? We want sincere apologies... Luhan should apologize profusely."
"How many of us hesitate to suppress Muslim people on this matter?"
"We hope they can do it as quickly as possible, concerning the Luhan problem, Lufans (Luhan's fandom name) sent e-mails to Luhan Studio to take action on this matter. And if you're not LuFans, please don't put Luhan back in your K-pop fandom battles. Don't make it worse."
As of writing, Luhan or his studio has not yet released a statement regarding this matter.
