Rookie K-pop Group NTX's Agency Apologizes Over Cultural Appropriation Concerns and Criticism

NTX, a new K-pop group that just debuted, landed on their first controversy after accusations of cultural appropriation shown in their photo teasers. In line with this, Victory company sent their official reply.

On March 30, a new K-pop boy group named NTX was launched by Victory Company through their debut and first mini-album, "Full of Lovescapes."

Several K-pop enthusiasts anticipate their debut, but unfortunately, their entry into the music scene didn't go smoothly as some netizens, particularly international K-pop fans, questioned their photo teasers wearing the traditional clothing of various cultures and faced cultural appropriation accusations.

In particular, the issue sparked after NTX released its debut photo teasers. It was initially introduced that their title track would be "Kiss the World," thus; sticking with the concept, the 10 members appeared as illustrations wearing Korea's traditional clothes, Hanbok.

But when their latter photo teasers were released wearing traditional clothes of various countries, it didn't sit well for some netizens.

Apparently, the teasers aim to represent other countries, implied in their hashtags #KisstheWorld and #WorldCostume. Later on, there are debates in the comment sections of the uploaded photos, whether it is cultural appropriation or cultural appreciation.

Some fans expressed appreciation for them introducing traditional clothes to K-pop fans, but others expressed their frustrations over simply putting #WorldCostume when the clothing represents and holds so much history and significant events behind it.

As the photos drew more attention, some fans directly bring up the concern to its agency, Victory Company.

Shortly after, concerned fans and netizens who emailed the company received a reply containing their apology, and said, "Traditional clothes and fashion styles from worldwide nationalities are used simply to express a concept of the new music [Kiss the World of NTX]."

They further explained that they don't have any intention to offend any culture and affirmed fans that they will be more careful about their future preparation process.

On the other hand, despite the cultural appropriation concerns over NTX, Victory Company's 10-member boy group is properly targeting fans around the world.

NTX, which officially debuted with the mini-album "FULL OF LOVESCAPES," has now started its activities.

 The album means "full of descriptions of love" and contains all the ways to express NTX's fresh and warm love. "Kiss The World" is a song about the warmth of the lost person, longing for fans, and love that can't hold each other, and you can check the members' fresh and mature charms.

As they continue to walk on their path as K-pop idols, NTX received praises as they showcased their first performance on Mnet's music program "M Countdown," broadcast on April 1.
