Byun got his start as a DJ and manager before starting the successful talent agency and record label Yedang Entertainment in 1992.

The label became home to the popular K-pop artists like C-CLOWN and Ali.

In 2000, Yedang Entertainment was registered in the Korean Securities Dealers Automated Quotations (KOSDAQ) the Korean version of Wall Street's NASDAQ,

After becoming a publicly traded company, Byun's company expanded into film, television and satellite broadcasting.

He is survived by his wife Yang Soon Kyung.

A former successful singer, Yang is a major shareholder in Yedang Entertainment.

Back in 2009, the South Korean publication The Chosunilbo named Byun's widow as the third richest celebrity in the country in net worth.

Below the article breaking the news of Byun's death, dozens of fans posted their condolences for the music mogul that never got to see his golden years of retirement.

"We hear so often of overwork and exhaustion among idols, but we rarely think about what's going on behind the scenes," wrote K-pop fan Shyyrn.

"When a small company like Yedang Entertainment is trying to break into the K-Pop scene, everybody has a stake in its survival and its success and everybody, from the idols to the CEO, is trying their best to keep the dream alive. It's terrible that some people literally give their lives for that dream. Rest in peace."

"This is horrible. He was fairly young too," wrote b2thei2thegbangbang.

"Imagine if he'd only rested more he'd probably still might be alive. I really hope things like this will show people that work is not more important than resting, and you need to take a break once in a while. Especially in Korea, the working hours can be ridiculous and we're only human, not supermen."

Bananarama gave thanks to Byun for his legacy.

"Thank you for leaving the amazing C-Clown behind for the world!" the fan wrote.
