A Look into 'Story Op. 1': 9 Songs Based on True Stories Written by SHINee Jonghyun for 'Blue Night Radio'

It has been four years since Jonghyun left the physical world, but the words and music he left behind remain. To commemorate his 4th year since passing, let's delve into "Story Op. 1," the idol's first compilation album comprised of his self-composed tracks based on real stories of his "Blue Night Radio" listeners.

Jonghyun, SHINee's main vocalist, was also a DJ for the radio show, "Blue Night." As a way to convey the incredible stories of the listeners and incorporate himself in his show, the male idol prepared the project album he aired and released in 2015.

The album "Story Op. 1" consists of nine tracks that tell different stories sent by the radio listeners.

Here are 9 Songs Written by SHINee Jonghyun You Can Definitely Relate to:

1. 'Like You'

Initially released in 2014, "Like You" was written by Jonghyun based on a story sent by a male listener with one-sided love. The songwriter then made the song while trying to guess the perspective of the other proponent, delivering a heart-fluttering message.

2. 'I'm Sorry'

Based on a letter of a woman who first received an e-mail from her ex-boyfriend, Jonghyun beautifully conveys the raw emotions of the main character of being sorry for the other person. It is a track to listen to during break-ups, which will comfort you that it's normal to feel that way.

3. 'U&I'

Although this is not based on a true story of a listener, Jonghyun wrote this song to remind all of "Blue Night' listeners that they can share everything with him comfortably, may it be painful or happy.

4. 'End of a Day'

In this song, Jonghyun empathizes with listeners that after a tiring day, it is a good thing to have someone that can hug and pat your back and whisper, "You have worked hard."

Based on the story of Jonghyun and his dog, Byul Roo, this track provides a sense of healing and comfort.

5. 'Happy Birthday'

For this track, Jonghyun wrote the song after hearing multiple stories from his listeners who were celebrating their birthdays in various ways.

The traditional birthday song conveys a cheerful sound, but this time, Jonghyun wrote a melancholic birthday song that depicts a birthday full of sadness, celebration alone, or celebrating a birthday of a person who was no longer in their life.

6. 'Maybe Tomorrow'

Similar to "End of a Day," Jonghyun based the song on multiple stories where he tells his listeners that it is okay to cheer up even not day, but maybe tomorrow.

7. 'Skeleton Flower'

"Skeleton Flower" (diphyelleia gravi) is a small flower where its petals become transparent when it rains. Jonghyun wrote the song describing external and internal struggled metaphorically.

8. '02:34'

Based on Jonghyun's real personal story, the title is the time when he decided to meet with his friends after the "Blue Night" broadcast.

To realistically convey the story of friendship, he even included their real phone conversation, to which we can all relate to.

9. 'Fine'

Last but not least, "Fine" tells the awkward yet heart-fluttering moments of a man and woman left alone, but are still not yet in an official relationship. It gives listeners a sneak peek of future possibilities.
