SEVENTEEN Woozi Reveals How He Began Writing Songs

Recently on June 11, SEVENTEEN member Woozi made a guest appearance on the Youtube channel Calm Down Man, where he sat down for an interview.

During his interview, Woozi spoke about his trainee days as he enters his eighth year in the entertainment industry. Woozi first revealed he began training when he was in his final year of middle school, during which he also began living away from his family.

"I began training when I was in my last year of middle school. I began living away from my family from then on, as I used to spend all of my time, including my sleeping time, training after school. I used to sleep at school all the time," Woozi said.

He added that he never told anyone that he was a trainee in the past, as he didn't want to come off as someone who was showing off.

"During my early trainee days, I didn't tell anybody at school that I was a trainee. Even my homeroom teacher didn't know. I didn't want them to think that I was showing off, so I kept [being a trainee] to myself at middle school," Woozi said.

When he was asked how he became a songwriter, Woozi explained, saying, "I write a lot of songs now, but I honestly had no idea that I would be writing songs in the past."

He continued, "When I was a trainee, there was nothing I could do in my spare time besides singing and dancing. Writing songs was something that I could do that the agency staff wouldn't give me this look for if I was doing it. That is pretty much how I ended up writing songs."

Woozi Reveals Reason He Avoided Forming Close Bond With Fellow Trainees

Woozi continued talking about his days as a trainee, and revealed just how many trainees he had witness join the agency, only for them to leave.

"Actually, from the moment I joined until the time I made my debut, there were about 60 trainees who joined [the agency], then left or was asked to leave by our agency," Woozi revealed.

Because of this, Woozi began avoiding forming close bonds with his fellow trainees as they come and go, saying, "As a countless number of people came and went, I started to feel that getting close to them was something that I shouldn't do. I thought I would get hurt if I became close with them, but then gone all of a sudden one day. It is sad, but I kept my distance from all the trainees until I made my debut."

Now that he is in his eighth year, Woozi honestly expresses how he feels awkward when attending events due to the new groups, as most of the people he knew or has promoted with in the past aren't active anymore or taking a long break from group promotions.

Meanwhile, Woozi and SEVENTEEN made their debut back in May 2015 under Pledis Entertainment.
