Former FTISLAND Member Song Seunghyun Denies Involvement in Voice Phishing Scam

Recently on July 12, media outlets reported that a former male idol in his thirties, who is now an actor, had confessed to committing voice phishing scams. It was reported that he turned himself in at the police station on June 16 and was arrested.

He reportedly confessed, saying, "I had received a total of ₩6 million KRW (around $4,590 USD) from the victim of my voice phishing scam."

The former idol's report was made on May 16 at the Yeoju Police Station in the Gyeonggi Province. There, he claimed to have scammed victims. He also explained that the reason he committed the crime was due to financial difficulties and that he was lured in by an online advertisement for a high-paying job position while scrolling the internet.

After participating in a few jobs, he soon realized that it was part of a voice phishing ring and hurried to confess to the police.

Following his confession, the police reportedly arrested three more affiliated perpetrators in the voice phishing ring. They are currently investigating the matter.

The identity of the idol-turned-actor has yet to be revealed to the public. All that is know is that he was a member of a famous idol group, is currently in his thirties, and is active as an actor. Despite the identity being a mystery, many users have voiced out their theories online.

One of the suspected idols is former FTISLAND member Song Seunghyun. However, Song Seunghyun quickly responded to the speculations on July 13.

On his Instagram account, Song Seunghyun shared a screenshot of the voice phishing scam article and a message that denied his involvement in the scam, saying, "It is not me. Don't worry. I am doing well and filming a project right now."

With that, the former idol's identity involved in the scam still remains a mystery.

Song Seunghyun made his debut after joining the lineup of rock band FTISLAND back in 2009 as Oh Won Bin's replacement. He promoted with the band as their guitarist and sub vocalist until his departure in December 2019 to pursue being an actor
