JYP Entertainment and Republic Records- one of the biggest agencies in the U.S.- are launching a joint project called America2Korea (A2K), a search for new artists in the U.S. and Canada to participate and debut in a new global girl group.

On Jul. 25, JYP shared an announcement video where founder and chairman Park Jin Young and Republic Records' founder and CEO Monte Lipman tackled their upcoming A2K project.

"Today, I'm so exhilarated to announce the biggest project ever for me and JYP Entertainment- A2K," Park Jin Young said.

Monte Lipman stated, "What I always say with every artist is it allow us to help make a difference because most importantly the music is part of the healing process, [and] music makes the world a better place. Quite frankly, that's why I'm so excited to work with J.Y. Park and, of course, JYP Entertainment on this brand new groundbreaking series, A2K."

The new girl group formed through A2K will be the first American act created from the K-pop training system. A2K will hold auditions in five cities across the U.S., such as Atlanta (Sept. 10), Chicago (Sept. 14), New York (September 17 and 18), Dallas (Sept. 20), and Los Angeles (Sept. 23 to 25). Park Jin Young himself will be present in these local auditions.

Applicants who pass will be invited to Los Angeles, where the candidates going to Korea will be finalized. Semi-finalists will then become trainees at JYP Entertainment in Korea, where they will train with top executives, producers, and choreographers.

The final members of Republic Records and JYP Entertainment's new girl group will later be chosen and debut in the U.S. The group will work with both companies for all music releases.

JYP Entertainment and Republic Records began their strategic partnership in February 2020, with TWICE being the first JYP artist involved. JYP extended this partnership earlier this year, getting Stray Kids and ITZY signed with the American label.

Republic Records is the agency known for housing renowned artists, such as Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, The Weeknd, Drake, Post Malone, John Legend, and Lil Wayne.

JYP Entertainment's Latest New Girl Group

JYP Entertainment's new girl group, NMIXX, officially made their debut this year. It's the company's first female group almost two years since its Japanese girl group NiziU was launched in December 2020. Regarding the company's Korean female groups, NMIXX is the first in three years since ITZY in February 2019.

Consisting of seven members, NMIXX released their highly-anticipated single album "AD MARE" on Feb. 22, 2022. The album comprises the title song "O.O" and the B-side track "TANK." The single album impressively sold 250,000 copies in South Korea, earning a platinum certification from Circle Chart (formerly Gaon Chart) in April.

Moreover, NMIXX's "AD MARE" peaked at No. 1 on the Circle Weekly Album Chart and No. 29 on Japan's Oricon Weekly Combined Singles Chart.
