5 K-pop Idols Who Are More Successful With Their Solo Careers Than as Group Member [Updated 2023]

In K-pop, we are seeing more and more idols taking on the challenge of venturing into solo endeavours. Although trying to promote as your own artist without your group can be daunting, even risky, there are numerous idols who saw immense success from doing so. In fact, some have even become more successful thanks to their own careers than when they promote as a group member.

With that, here are some of the idols who are more successful with their solo careers than they are as a group member.

1. DKZ Jaechan

Jaechan saw success and a staggering rise in popularity after he starred in the 2022 BL (boys love) drama Semantic Error. But before he is an actor, Jaechan is actually a member of boy group DKZ, which is formerly known as DONGKIZ. In fact, due to Jaechan's success with Semantic Error, DKZ rebranded themselves and began seeing a rise in popularity as well.

2. Kangnam

If you love watching variety shows, then there's a big chance you have seen Kangnam in some of them. In fact, Kangnam is very active on variety shows.

But did you know he was actually a member of the hip-hop group M.I.B? The group made their debut back in October 2011, but disbanded in January 2017, with their last release being their second studio album "The Maginot Line" in March 2014.

3. Kim Sejeong

Kim Sejeong first attained popularity after making her debut as a member of the project girl group I.O.I from 2016 to 2017.

While promoting as a member of I.OI, Kim Sejeong also debuted as a member of Jellyfish Entertainment's group gugudan in June 2016, until their disbandment in December 2020.

But Kim Sejeong enjoyed more success individually as an actress and solo artist. In fact, she has starred in numerous lead roles in dramas since 2017.

4. 2PM Junho

While 2PM is popular among K-pop fans, especially with their numerous hit songs, it can't be denied that member Junho is seeing immense popularity with his solo activities. In fact, the idol has established himself as one of the top actors in recent years, and is more recognized as an actor rather than an idol these days.

5. Chuu

Former LOONA member Chuu is significantly more popular as a TV personality, and has appeared as a cast member and host for several variety shows.

During her time in LOONA, she was more active with her broadcast appearances that promoting with with the group. This was due to the issues she was having with the label Blockberry Creative.
