THIS Is the Only K-pop Album on Billboard's '50 Best Albums of 2022'

On Dec. 6 local time, the American music media outlet unveiled its top 50 picks for best albums of 2022. On the list is BLACKPINK's "BORN PINK," which ranked No. 42. It is the only K-pop album released this year to be included.

Starr Bowenbank mentioned the pressure that the "world's biggest girl group" might have felt when it was time for them to release their sophomore album following their 2020 release "THE ALBUM," which earned the foursome some accolades.

"But with the powerhouse record label YG and trusted producer Teddy Park by Jennie, Jisoo, Lisa, and Rosé's side, success was always in the cards for 'BORN PINK,'" Starr added.

Bowenbank then commented that the Billboard 200-topping album sees BLACKPINK "fully stepping into superstardom," with them "...rapping with classic braggadocio ("Shut Down," "Typa Girl"), highlighting their vocal skills ("Hard to Love," "The Happiest Girl") and providing timeless dance hits for the genre ("Pink Venom")."

Starr further said that BLACKPINK's "BORN PINK" becomes successful not only because of its unmatched balance between Korean and English, or its overall infectiousness, but because the album showcases "the idols marrying the excitement of the old BLACKPINK with and a more mature, grown-up version of the group." She also took note of how the girls have a fanbase that "endlessly supports them."

Back in 2020, their first studio album "THE ALBUM" was also named one of the best albums of 2020 by Billboard. It took No. 25 on the list and was described as the album that "not only builds on the foursome's string of hits since their 2016 debut, it also provides the perfect entry point for soon-to-be Blinks to embrace the girls as they continue their meteoric rise."

Congratulations to BLACKPINK on entering Billboard's "50 Best Albums of 2022" with "BORN PINK"!
