'Bankruptcy'? GWSN Struggles With Finances & Accommodation - What Happened?

On January 22, South Korean newspaper Hankyoreh reported that K-pop group GWSN had won their case against their agency, The Wave Music. For more context, the group was in the middle of a legal dispute due to the company "neglecting" the members' basic needs.

With the girl group's filing, they won the lawsuit against The Wave Music and have terminated their contracts. According to sources, the company did not react towards the lawsuit, concluding the dispute by default.

GWSN is a girl group consisting of multinational members. They are comprised of idols which are Koreans, Taiwanese, and Japanese. After one year of their debut, the began to receive obstacles in their career, ever since their first company Kiwi Pop went through drastic changes.

Their former company went through the process of corporate reinstatement procedures, thus moving to their present company, The Wave Music, under a contract made in July 2020.

According to sources, GWSN claimed how the agency hasn't paid the group's dorm rent since February 2020, leading the members to be evicted from the premises. They also stated that the dance practice room was also cleared out, and the staff members left the company.

Furthermore, the agency also neglected visa applications for Taiwanese member Soso and Japanese member Miya, who both received penalty with fines, as well as criminal records for prolonging their stays.

GWSN also stated their agency has disregarded basic care for the members since June 2021, expressing how it's now unlikely for them to return with a comeback.

"Since the last album promotion in June 2021, THE WAVE MUSIC has neglected the members' needs, making it hard for them to continue working in the entertainment industry."

GWSN's lawsuit filing hasn't been noticed yet by the company, as they have failed to respond immediately for more than 30 days. On the other hand, the court's ruling for the group to work independently will be settled, if the agency doesn't appeal in 14 days.

GWSN Producer Swin Lee Reveals Not Getting Paid For His Work

On February 10, 2022. GWSN Producer Swin Lee posted on his Instagram Story that there are no updates yet about GWSN's next comeback, since he hasn't been paid yet for his previous work.

Swin Lee addressed how much of GWSN's fandom, GROOs, are asking him about the group's next release. The producer also acknowledged his support for GWSN, but he hasn't received an income for his hard work, despite producing it all by himself. Swin Lee added that he's not the right person to ask when it comes to the group's updates.

Fans reacted to the situation:

"What is Wave Ent doing at this point? The most recent comeback was their best-selling one, yet producers and staff are coming out saying they weren't paid. Where did the money go? Because there were little to no promotions for TOSOTM, and we haven't had a comeback in almost a year."

"The problem is that company has already had past problems of employees not getting paid. So, my best bet is that the money they earned from their latest comeback went to the people they hadn't paid before."
