EXO-CBX Terminate Contract... But Why is GOT7 Trending?

EXO-CBX has become a hot topic due to their current dispute against SM Entertainment, but why is GOT7 trending online?

Here's what we know.

EXO-CBX's Legal Dispute With SM Entertainment Draws In GOT7

EXO-CBX's legal battle with SM Entertainment has taken over the internet by storm.

On June 1, people were shocked with the sudden report of Chen, Baekhyun, and Xiumin notifying SM Entertainment of their exclusive contract termination, causing a series of debacle on company management, proximity, prompting allegations, and legal dispositions.

In the middle of the chaos, GOT7 has accidentally joined on the ropes, and has been hilariously mentioned by fans numerous times due to their situation when they left JYP Entertainment.

For further context, GOT7's exclusive contracts expired on January 19, 2021, causing them to leave the agency on January 11, 2021, before its expiration.

In an interview with GQ Australia on May 24, 2022, GOT7 leader Jay B offered insights on why the group left JYP Entertainment. The idol stated that while JYPE was a safe space and had great offer, leaving eventually became a preferrable choice because of creative differences.

Since then, all members have joined separate companies while having the trademark rights of their name and music. Fans are more supportive of the members not renewing, since they now have full creative control on their group releases.

Meanwhile, the legal dispute is still ongoing between SM Entertainment and EXO members Chen, Baekhyun, and Xiumin.

On June 2, MC Mong published an official statement through a Kohwoo law firm representative, showcasing his standpoint on the case.

On his statement through the firm, several key points were made to clarify that MC Mong wasn't involved in any action that prompted the dispute between SM and EXO-CBX. It also declared that while MC Mong knew member Baekhyun on a personal level, the producer elaborated that no "luring" was made.

Furthermore, the legal firm also warned SM Entertainment about their use of vague terms when it comes to third party forces, in order to prevent further misunderstandings in the future regarding MC Mong.
