(G)I-DLE 'Wife' Draws Similarities to Famous 2006 Hit

On February 6, 2024, famous influencer Jarred Jermaine posted a TikTok saying (G)I-DLE's "Wife" sounded extremely similar to Fergie's 2006 hit, "Fergalicious."

In particular, the intros of "Wife" and "Fergalicious" have the same rhythm and beat, making them sound uncannily similar. Additionally, it is noted that Soyeon's "Taste is Cocoroco" sounds extremely similar to how Fergie raps "Makes the boys go loco."

Soon after the video was posted, a post titled "The song that foreigners claim is similar to (G)I-DLE's 'Wife'" was posted to a popular South Korean community forum on February 7, 2024.

In the post, they noted that both (G)I-DLE and Fergie sampled the song "Supersonic" by J.J. Fad, which was released in 1988. You can hear the part they sampled starting at 0:35.

The post soon went viral, garnering over 60,000 views on the forum. Many Korean netizens took to the comment section to share their thoughts on the matter.

The reactions were mixed. Some agreed that the songs definitely sounded similar, with others wondering if they referenced Fergie's "Fergalicious" as inspiration before sampling "Supersonic."
