ITZY member Yuna has officially confirmed her acting debut in the upcoming tvN comedy series "Miss Undercover Boss," marking her first foray into the acting world while continuing her music career.
The production team confirmed on July 1 that Yuna will portray Hong Jang-mi, the younger sister of the main character Hong Geum-bo, played by acclaimed actress Park Shin-hye.
The 21-year-old K-pop star joins a star-studded cast that includes Park Shin-hye, Go Kyung-pyo, Ha Yoon-kyung, and Cho Han-gyeol in the retro office comedy drama. "Miss Undercover Boss" is set during the turbulent late 1990s IMF crisis and follows a 35-year-old elite financial supervisory officer who uses her youthful appearance to go undercover as a 20-year-old high school graduate employee at a securities firm to investigate suspicious financial activities.
The series will be directed by Park Sun-ho, known for his work on hit dramas including "Suspicious Partner," "Wok of Love," "A Business Proposal," and "Brewing Love". The script is penned by Moon Hyun-kyung, who previously wrote "Into the Ring". The collaboration between these experienced professionals adds significant credibility to the production, which is scheduled to premiere on tvN in the first half of 2026.
Yuna's casting was initially reported in late June, with speculation building throughout the K-pop community about her potential transition into acting. The confirmation comes as fans had long anticipated seeing Yuna expand her talents beyond music, with many noting her natural charisma and visual appeal that would translate well to acting.
This career move represents a significant milestone for Yuna, who debuted with ITZY in 2019 and has since established herself as one of the most recognizable faces in fourth-generation K-pop. Her journey to stardom began when she was street-cast by JYP Entertainment while attending a BTOB concert with her sister in 2015. After three years of training, she debuted with ITZY and has since been part of numerous hit songs, including "DALLA DALLA," "ICY," "WANNABE," and more recently, their comeback with "Girls Will Be Girls," released in June 2025.
The timing of her acting debut announcement coincides with ITZY's recent successful comeback with their mini-album "Girls Will Be Girls," which was released on June 9, 2025. The album marked a significant return for the group, featuring all five members, including Lia, who had returned to full group activities after a health-related hiatus.
While JYP Entertainment has not yet issued an official statement regarding Yuna's acting debut, the production confirmation suggests the agency supports her expansion into acting while maintaining her commitments to ITZY. This dual career path follows a growing trend of K-pop idols successfully transitioning into acting while continuing their music careers.
Industry observers note that Yuna's natural screen presence and growing international popularity make her an ideal candidate for the acting world. Her role as Hong Jang-mi in "Miss Undercover Boss" will serve as a crucial test of her acting abilities and could potentially open doors for future dramatic roles.
Filming for "Miss Undercover Boss" is currently underway, with the production team expressing excitement about working with the talented cast. The series promises to deliver a unique blend of comedy and suspense, set against the backdrop of South Korea's financial sector during one of its most challenging periods.
As Yuna prepares for this new chapter in her career, fans worldwide are eagerly anticipating her performance and the potential it holds for her future in the entertainment industry. The series is expected to showcase a different side of the ITZY member, demonstrating her versatility as an entertainer beyond her established reputation as a performer and singer.
