Psy's Canadian Back-Up Dancers Speak Out About Their Experience With The Korean Superstar

When Psy co-hosted the MuchMusic Video Awards earlier this month, he also took to the stage himself for a live performance of his popular single "Gentleman."

Maybe what people did not realize is that he used local Canadian dancers in his team of forty.

Two of them, Melissa Mitro and Shane Simpson, spoke with the Richmond Hill Liberal recently about what it was like to learn the 'arrogant dance' choreography and share the stage with the world famous rapper.

Mitro, the runner-up for Canada's version of the reality competition show So You Think You Can Dance explained the process. "Psy had flown in his eight Korean dancers to teach us the world famous 'Gentleman' moves," she said. "Everyone was thrilled to be able to have the chance to learn the choreography."

This was not Simpson's first time performing at the MMVAs, last year he danced alongside Canadian pop sensation Justin Bieber. But he had nothing but good things to say about this year's awards show.

"Performing with Psy was awesome. What can I say? He's an international star."

"After the performance, Psy was high-fiving almost all 40 of us," added Mitro. "It's always nice to know that the artist really appreciates all the hard work everyone puts into the performance."

But all the hard work is not over. Mitro and Simpson have busy summer schedules for other popular stars and also teaching dance workshops across the country.

Psy, too, will be hard at work. After finishing up his official "Gentleman" promotions which took him all around the world in only a few short months, the 35-year-old "Gangnam Style" hit-maker is now working on his upcoming album.

"I'm working on it. Definitely you're going to see a lot of familiar celebrities working together with me," explained Psy.

The new record is set to hit stores in September.
