Investigation Of Se7en And Sangchu To End By July 5: Defense Ministry To Consider Excusing All Celebrities From Army Service

The investigation of K-pop solo singer Se7en And Sangchu of the group Mighty Mouth will conclude by the end of next week, according to the South Korean Ministry of Defense, but its ramifications could last much longer.

"The investigation period is until July 5," a Ministry of Defense official said Thursday, the website allpop reports.

"Once the investigation is over, we'll have the results not only on the general celebrity recruit situation, but also about Se7en and Sangchu."

The "general celebrity recruit situation" the Ministry of Defense will address, is the possibility of excusing celebrities from mandatory military service, according to the news service YTN.

All eligible males between the ages of 18 and 35 currently must enroll for between 21 and 24 months of army service in South Korea (the length of mandatory enrollment changes by several months depending on which branch of the military that they serve in) in a practice known as conscription.

As for Se7en and Sangchu, the duo are facing accusations after a camera crew from the Seoul Broadcasting System (SBS) program "Scene 21" appeared to capture the soldiers entering massage parlors known for offering sex acts for money, during their time serving in the army.

A representative from the Ministry of Defense who claims the agency began their investigation as soon as the "Scene 21" episode aired earlier this week, promised that the stars will be treated the same as any other army recruit.

"Celebrity recruits aren't different from regular soldiers," the Ministry of Defense spokesperson said.

"They'll be punished the same way. We can only know how severe the punishment will be after the detailed investigation concludes."

When the Se7en And Sangchu footage emerged this week, there was disagreement among many K-pop fans about whether it was an unconscionable act of perversion or an invasion of the stars' privacy, even among KPopstarz readers.

"Se7en is a human being and he made a mistake," KPopstarz reader Sierra wrote in response to our Tuesday article on the Se7en And Sangchu scandal.

"It seems to me that the man has needs and he wanted to be with a woman. The
public is being so hard on him that we need to hear Se7en's side of the story. Give the man a break!"

Reader Haha had quite a different take.

"Sierra, if you had a better understanding of Korean history, [the government requires] military service for every man with a few exceptions and why people are so mad at him, you wouldn't say such bullsh*t," Haha wrote.
