'Gangnam Style' Parody Gives Hope To Impoverished Children In Cambodia

With "Gangnam Style" nearing 1.7 billion YouTube views, it is as popular as ever - and when something is that famous, it is only natural for people to want to copy it, recreate it, or parody it.

It seems like just about everyone has done their own version of Psy's international mega hit - grandparents, animals, politicians and the like have all shown the people of the world their own personal 'Gangnam styles' through the power of the internet.

The latest attention-grabbing parody comes from Cambodia, where 160 school children banded together to recreate the iconic music video.

The musical tribute to the Korean rapper was posted to YouTube on June 27 by Jean-Luc Nguyen who described the project by writing, "What happens when 160 kids from a slum in Phnom Penh decide to do a parody of Gangnam Style? This amazingly funny video."

He went on to explain, "These impoverished kids live in extremely basic conditions but are full of talent and potential. We wanted to give them an opportunity to express themselves through an artistic and fun project. They didn't disappoint us."

They didn't disappoint us either. Check out the fun and uplifting video below:

Nguyen also uploaded a 16-minute behind the scenes video documenting what the process was like for the children.
