Review: Romantic Punch Kicks It Up A Notch With 'Glam Slam' [AUDIO]

Get ready to pump your fist in the air.

"Glam Slam," the new turbo-charged single from South Korean hard rock band Romantic Punch will get you out of your seat and banging your head in no time.

Channeling shades of 1980s Def Leppard and 1990s Soundgarden (particularly frontman Chris Cornell's vocals) Romantic Punch has produced a solid, heavy four-minute single.

And although the arrangement is a bit schizophrenic at times, when the hook appears in "Glam Slam" it seals the deal for the band's new single as a bone fide rocker.

Romantic Punch lead singer In Hyuk brings the song home with his soaring vocals that can also range from a Scott Weiland style moan to a Rob Halford high-pitched howl.

The singer really takes things to the next level at the end of the song as he lets loose a torrential downpour of high-octave vocals that would make Corenell proud.

The band's guitarist Konchi provides In with the perfect launching pad for his classic rock-infused vocals.

The guitar playing is heavy on the grit, yet there is no denying Konchi's technicality on the instrument.

Formed in 2003 as a Christian rock band called WA*DISH (reportedly short for "wash the dishes"), the Seoul group reinvented themselves as Romantic Punch in 2009.

With the release of their first full-length album "Midnight Cinderella" in 2010, the band has proved that they are a band that is worth taking note of.

The main place Romantic Punch could improve is in their production.

Everything about the way the group sounds and looks calls out for a classic direct-to-tape sound.

By clearly recording in a polished digital setting they are doing themselves a great disservice.

By recording using what is undeniably modern recording techniques the band starts to resemble inferior groups like Korn or Creed that came a little after Soundgarden, not in content, but simply because of the digital technology that came into fashion in the late 1990s and what that did to the sound of albums.

Despite wearing their idols on their sleeve, Romantic Punch clearly has a sound all their own and a distinct vibe, cultivated by years of playing music together.

If a producer could capture that sound at its most raw live on tape that would truly be something special.

The idea of what the band could be if they were recorded free of digital manipulation is an exciting prospect.
