Review: Humming Urban Stereo Keeps The Party Moving With 'Give Me Your Love Tonight' Featuring Youme [AUDIO]

One of the things that made the early electro-pop movements of the 1970s and early 1980s so interesting is that it is not music that was simply generated by machines.

While bands ranging from the Devo to the Happy Mondays reinvented what a dance song could be, they didn't do it by eliminating live musicians entirely.

That movement wouldn't take over pop production for another couple of decades.

But as an increasing number of today's pop producers seem to be starting to realize, the best music nearly always involves at least a few live musicians.

With a sound evoking the early Daft Punk records like 1997's Homework and 2001's "Discover" the new Humming Urban Stereo song "Give Me Your Love Tonight" brings together musicians and technology to create a groove that would keep any party, well, humming.

And while the song's core beat is a bit lackluster, only in the sense that you have heard it on every "chill out" mix from here to Hollywood, (and it is typically made completely on computer by one sole creator) once the live musicians are brought into "Give Me Your Love Tonight" things really start to gel.

Those live performances include a dynamite sex-soaked vocal provided by Youme, a real high point of the song.

A project that is comprised of sole member Lee Jeereen and an unending series of mostly female guest vocalists, Humming Urban Stereo has been offering up tasty throwbacks to some of the most classic moments of the dance floor, since its formation back in 2004.

Since Lee's longtime collaborator (and considered by many fans to have been the second member of Humming Urban Stereo) "Humming Girl" Lee Jin Hwa died last year from heart disease, the musician has still been active, last month releasing the Prince-infused "Rollercoaster."

In Youme, Lee Jeereen has found a solid collaborator if not to fill "Humming Girl" Lee Jin Hwa's shoes, then to open up a new range of sonic possibilities, all performed with the sensuality that the singer exudes.

The musicians on "Give Me Your Love Tonight" should not be left out in any discussion of this track.

The guitar playing and retro synthesizers will blow your hair back by the song's climax.

A live funky drummer would however, have taken the song into the stratosphere and beyond.
