A Supreme Team No More: Band Splits! E-Sens Leaves Amoeba Culture, Simon D Stays With Record Label

South Korean hip hop duo Supreme Team has split up, in a move that appears to be motivated by band member E-Sens's contract with record label Amoeba Culture expiring on Friday.

"We have told E-Sens that his contract ended on July 19," a representative for Amoeba Culture said, according to the website allkpop.

"E-Sens is no longer an artist on our label. We have parted ways because our ways of thinking about music are different. [The remaining member of Supreme Team] Simon D will continue to work under Amoeba Culture."

E-Sens confirmed his departure from Amoeba Culture on Twitter on Saturday.

"I was told of my contract ending today," the rapper tweeted. "I'm going to promote as a solo artist."

E-Sens's former bandmate Simon D also took to Twitter to explain that the decision to break up the Supreme Team was not his.

"It was Sens's only road to be happy, and I respect that decision," Simon wrote.

"It's just that we're not the same team anymore, but our relationship of over 10 years has definitely not changed. Since we're now solo artists, we'll now be able to show what we do best...I'm thankful and apologize to those who loved the team and were patiently waiting for our album."

A spokesperson for Amoeba Culture told the publication MyDaily that E-Sens's departure from Supreme Team had more to do with the record label than the band.

"Because there were differences in music direction with E-Sens [and Amoeba Culture], we decided to [part ways]," the spokesperson said.

"The other member Simon D plans to continue promoting with Amoeba Culture."

The Amoeba Culture rep questioned whether Supreme Team was ever even really a band.

"To be honest, Supreme Team started out as a project so it doesn't seem proper to call it a disbandment," the spokesperson said.

But the record label rep did confirm the members had gone their separate ways.

"It's true that Supreme Team has been split up," the spokesperson said. "Both plan to continue promoting in the music scene independently."

Supreme Team had returned from a two-year hiatus back in March with the album "Thanks 4 The Wait," after E-Sens removed himself from the public eye in the wake of criminal charges of using marijuana, according to the website Soompi.

Simon D is currently working on a solo album for Aomeba Culture.
