Solbi Offers Fans Support, Acknowledges Her Own Battle With Depression For World Suicide Prevention Day

Former Typhoon singer Solbi admits that she has faced her own struggles with depression.

In an online message on Thursday, Solbi drew from her own experiences to offer fans suffering from psychological issues her personal support ahead of next week's World Suicide Prevention Day.

"As Suicide Prevention Day approaches on September 10, I want to communicate with you all," Solbi wrote on the website me2day.

"Everyone has worries and it's not easy to say them all. I was also like that, so for this day at least, I want to become someone's [sister], someone's friend and share it together. If you leave your worries in the comments, I will be with you to the best of my abilities until the 10th."

She also offered fans seeking her advice, but whose shyness made them uncomfortable posting their problems in the me2day comments section, another option.

"The courage to talk about your worries and the moment of communication, don't forget that that is healing! I love you!" Solbi wrote.

"If it's too hard to say them in the comment section, please send me a private message."

The singer will review the online depression confessions and select five fans that she will have private one-on-one conversations with, according to the publication eNEWS.

Solbi, who admits to having had thoughts of suicide, claims that painting or immersing herself in a good book has helped her to cope with her depression.

The 29-year-old singer pointed to the tragedy of suicide victims who ended their life because they felt alone as being the prime example of why you should talk to people in your life who seem to be going through a tough time.

"Many people commit suicide because they are not able to express their worries and hardships," Solbi wrote.

"If those around these people who are thinking about suicide reach out and listen to them, they wouldn't make such a painful decision. I also experienced a difficult time so I understand how it feels. If anyone has a worry, I want to work through with it together by talking."

An estimated 40 countries currently participate in World Suicide Prevention Day.

The event is organized through the International Association for Suicide Prevention the World Health Organization (WHO) and the World Federation for Mental Health.

South Korea currently has the second highest suicide rate in the world, behind Greenland, according to the WHO.
