G-Dragon Blames His Current Songwriting Slump On Happiness: 'I Keep Editing 1 Song That I Wrote A Year Ago' Big Bang Rapper Gripes

With his two solo albums "Coup d'Etat" part one and part two, tearing up the pop charts around the world G-Dragon has every right to celebrate.

Yet the happiness that G-Dragon has experienced because of his recent success has come at a cost; his ability to quickly hammer out songs has suffered.

In Friday's episode of the South Korean television show "Yoo Hee Yeol's Sketchbook" the rapper and Big Bang frontman opened up about the problem with being happy.

"Before, I used to be able to write three to four songs in just one sitting," G-Dragon said.

"But recently, I take a month to write one song, and I keep editing one song that I wrote a year ago."

The star, whose real name is Kwon Ji Young, recalled the angst that fueled his early songwriting.

"When I was a trainee, I kept writing songs because I tried to get rid of all the tiring things and things that were building up," G-Dragon said. "But I think right now I'm this way because I'm so happy."

Known for being a tireless perfectionist in the studio, the Big Bang rapper admitted that he doesn't enjoy hearing some of his earlier work.

"I don't listen to my previous songs because I become embarrassed," G-Dragon said.

"If I record 'Heartbreaker' again, I wouldn't sing it like that. I'd pronounce everything in a correct manner."

The international star admitted that he was nervous during the preproduction of "Coup d'Etat," but feels he gave the project everything he had.

"I was really worried and stressed as I prepared my solo album," G-Dragon said.

"I had the mindset that it was going to be my last album, so I put in everything I wanted to do."

G-Dragon currently has five songs in the Billboard K-pop top 40.

"Who You?" is number 16 on the Billboard chart, "Black" featuring Jennie Kim is at number 18, "Coup d'Etat" featuring hip hop heavyweight Diplo and "Harlem Shake" mastermind Baauer is in the number 20 spot, "R.O.D" featuring Lydia Paek is at number 22 and what could be the K-pop collaboration of the year "Niliria" featuring Missy Elliott is at number 30.

G-Dragon and Elliott debuted the song at the grand finale of the two-day K-pop festival KCON in Los Angeles last month.
