Shinhwa's Kim Dong Wan To Star In The Musical 'Le Passe Muraille' In November At The Hongik University Art Center in Seoul

Next stop Broadway?

Two years since his star turn in an international production of "Hedwig and the Angry Inch," that took him to China, Japan, Taiwan and the Philippines, Shinhwa singer Kim Dong Wan is soon to have another musical theater role to add to his resume.

From November 13 through January 26, the singer will star in a musical based on the 1943 French short story "Le Passe Muraille" ("The Passer-through-Walls") by Marcel Aymé at the Hongik University Art Center in Seoul.

"As he is rising to the musical stage in two years, Kim Dong Wan's determination and passion is extraordinary," a representative for the organization producing the show, Live Works Company, told eNEWS.

"He's working hard to make the musical 'Le Passe Muraille' a great present for its audiences, so please show lots of interest in it."

Kim will play the central character of Dutilleul, who at age 43, discovers he has the ability to walk through walls.

And as anyone who follows his acting career knows, Kim's experience isn't confined to the theater.

The 33-year-old Shinhwa singer previously appeared in the South Korean dramas "A Farewell to Sorrow" and "Children of Heaven," and the 2004 film "Spin Kick" before his star turn in the 2012 blockbuster disaster film "Yeongasi."

"Yeongasi" drew an audience of 1.1 million to the movie theater in its opening weekend.

Last year, Kim reflected on what about his performance made "Yeongasi" so much more popular than "Spin Kick," to the Korea JoongAng Daily.

"When filming 'Spin Kick,' I only thought about myself," Kim said.

"I exercised alone to build my muscles and I read the script alone to practice my lines. I later realized that teamwork is of the utmost importance in filming a movie. This time, I've learned a lot from the directors and actors, getting along quite well with them."

The triple-threat star also reflected on what it is that has allowed Shinhwa to continue for 15 years and earn their title as K-pop's longest-running boy band.

"We never expected to come this far. At first, we thought we'd be lucky to release a second album. Now I can safely see that we've been to the top," Kim said.

"Through all the ups and downs, though, our motivating mantra was 'who cares if we're on top or not? Let's just all be happy.' I think that attitude brought us to where we are today."
