Anti-Fan Charged With 200 Hours Of Community Service For Spreading Rumors IU Was Getting Married To A Pop Star

The alleged perpetrator of the online rumor that K-pop singer IU was marrying an idol star believed to be Eunhyuk of the boy band Super Junior, was ordered to serve 200 hours of community service by a Seoul Central District Court judge on Tuesday, according to the website allkpop.

The court-appointed community service was the result of a mediation deal between IU's record label LOEN Entertainment and the attorney for the accused anti-fan, so that the defendant could avoid jail time.

"IU will be marrying a famous boy band member," IU's online tormenter allegedly wrote back in May.

Because of a previous online controversy IU faced after she posted a photo of herself with a shirtless Eunhyuk to Twitter, K-pop fans jumped to the conclusion that the of Super Junior singer was IU's mystery fiancé.

According to South Korean authorities, the anti-fan was tracked through their IP address.

Last month, a representative for LOEN Entertainment expressed the label brass's desire to settle the online harassment case quickly in anticipation of IU's new album "Modern Times," which was released on Monday.

"There is a need for precautions coupled with her comeback," the record label's statement read.  "However, as we left the rumor alone, people came to believe it."

According to the LOEN statement the alleged anti-fan was old enough to know better.

"The person is of age to make personal judgment calls," the LOEN statement added.  "However, the perpetrator continued to spread the malicious rumor."

The record label rep added that the label believes online harassment is a major problem for today's stars.

"This happens to other celebrities, not just IU," the LOEN rep said.

"These days, there are so many young celebrities that it seems to be a bigger problem.  The negative issue [in this case] was resolved through this corrective measure, so we hope it will be a good precedent for the entertainment world."

He added that IU had decided not to meet her online tormenter once he suspect was in custody, as she had originally planned.

According to the LOEN rep, no one at the label feels that would have been a good idea.

"It seems unreasonable for [IU] to meet the perpetrator directly as she was very hurt by these actions," he said.
