Star Wars Episode 7 Casting Rumors: Irish Actor Martin McCann Cast As Leading Actor? While Star Wars Franchise Aims To Be Bigger Than Marvel Films

Star Wars Episode 7 casting rumors suggest that Irish actor Martin McCann to play the “thirty-something, male intellectual” in the upcoming sequel to the biggest sci-fi movie of all time.

“Have had it on extremely good advice that (Irish actor) Martin McCann is currently in London, competing for the lead role in STAR WARS. I'm a Belfast man, and the source was 100%. He is DEFINITELY currently in London competing for the role. He's already highly thought of by Spielberg,” as reported by Bleeding Cool.

The member of the TFN boards is closely connected to Steven Spielberg, because of the HBO series “The Pacific,” who is known to be very close with Lucas and Kathleen Kennedy suggesting that McCann’s chance in Star Wars Episode 7 is close to reality.

In addition, the “young twenty-something” lead male role has now been linked to “Derby” actor “Jack O’Connell, who was excellent in Tower Block, Harry Brown, Skins and many more, is a real contender for a key role in Star Wars: Episode VII. I believe that he’s met with Abrams and the signs I’m getting are that this meeting went very well.

Star Wars Episode 7 Casting Rumors: Director J.J. Abrams To Cast ‘Some Fantastic Actors Who Happen To Be British’ On The Upcoming Sequel

In other news, it has been reported that Disney is aiming to be bigger than Marvel Films with Star Wars Episode 7 casting going on, according to Disney’s Chief Financial Officer Jay Rasulo.

During the BS Global Media and Communications Conference held in New York on Tuesday, Rasulo said that Disney acquired Pixar Animation in 2006 for $7.5 billion, then it ventured out on Marvel in 2009 and lastly on LucasFilm in 2012 both amounting to $4 billion each, as reported by The Wrap.

"The model will be closely aligned to how it has treated another one of its major purchases," Rasulo revealed about how it’s planning to make “Star Wars” and “Indiana Jones” brands integrated to the company.

"You can substitute the word Marvel for LucasFilm," Rasulo said. Disney's strategy for capitalizing on Marvel was "to take this treasure trove of content and deliver it through the Disney eco-system," added by Disney’s CEO.

Disney is expected to lead LucasFilm’s Star Wars into a mega-box office hit as what it did to Marvel’s “The Avengers” and “Thor: The Dark World,” with J.J. Abrams signing on the first installment to the three new “Star Wars” films.

Star Wars Episode 7 Casting Rumors: Samuel L Jackson, Mark Hamill and Ewan McGregor Out Of The Picture? – Abrams Hasn’t Contacted Any Of The Original Cast Members Yet

With his interview with Times, J.J. Abrams explained why he loves working on the “Star Wars” franchise saying:

"I loved how Star Wars had that sense of a world far beyond the borders of what you can see and have been told. It's one of the things it did so brilliantly. If you watch the first movie, you don't actually know exactly what the Empire is trying to do. They're going to rule by fear - but you don't know what their end game is."
