Akdong Musician's Label CEO Yang Hyun Suk Raves About Their 'Astonishing' Debut Album 'Play' Due Out April 7

Akdong Musician may not have sold a single copy of their debut album "Play," scheduled for release on Monday, but they have already pleased one listener, the CEO and co-founder of their record label YG Entertainment, Yang Hyun Suk.

In an interview with the Korean publication E-Daily Star on Wednesday, Yang raved about the 11 songs on "Play."

"Akdong Musician's album is has a pure, organic sound that makes listeners wonder how this kind of music could be created in Korea," he said. "They have created a very good album."

The K-pop music mogul also praised the "K-Pop Star" winners' originality.

"Organic music like this has never existed in Korea so far," Yang said. "There have been too many boy bands in Korea's music scene so far. As far as I know, the media has also pointed out the problem of girl groups or boy bands' cookie-cutter music with a cute or sexy concept."

He strongly believes the teen duo is something special.

"Last year, dozens of new idol groups were poured into the music world, but only few of them were a really well-prepared team," Yang said.

"That undermines the further development of K-Pop. Akdong Musician's music is a very different. It will make you wonder if there have ever been singers doing this kind of music in Korea."

Comprised of 14-year-old Lee Soo Hyun singer and her brother, 17-year-old Lee Chan Hyuk on guitar, Akdong Musician were reportedly courted by every major K-pop label before settling on YG. The group was both praised and mocked for their distinctive look and sound.

Earlier this week, in a blog post on the YG Entertainment website, Yang was also singing Akdong's praises.

"Their ability to decipher untouched themes in pop music from a completely different viewpoint and the originality of their lyrics could be described by no word other than astonishing," he wrote.
