Execs From JYJ's Record Label C-JeS Accuse Organizers Of 2014 Incheon Asian Games Of Backing Out Of Agreement

Record executives from JYJ's label C-JeS Entertainment blasted the Incheon Asian Games' Organizing Committee, after they reportedly failed to include the band, selected over a year ago as the sporting event's official ambassadors, in the performing artist lineup for the event, which kicks off in September.

In a statement released on Tuesday, C-JeS execs accused the committee of once again bowing to pressure from the three JYJ members' former label, SM Entertainment.

"In a recent phone call, the Incheon Asian Games' Organizing Committee told us there was nothing confirmed for the event's artist lineup," the statement read, according to the website allkpop.

"At the press conference today, the organizing committee released a press release entitled 'Celebrity Lineup,' of who was actively participating in the 2014 Incheon Asian Games' opening and closing ceremonies. However, JYJ, the official ambassadors of the event, were not mentioned."

"We hope that the breaking of the Incheon Asian Games' Organizing Committee's promise was not because of the senseless and unfair outside pressure that JYJ has been experiencing [from SM Entertainment]," the statement concluded.

Later that day, Incheon Asian Games stage manager Jang Jin told the Korean publication TV Daily that the decision not to include JYJ's performance in the press release was for purely logistical reasons.

"There are various things to take into account," Jang said.

"It's not that JYJ's performance wasn't confirmed for political reasons, like you think. What we can say for certain is that JYJ is in the official opening stage. However, there is a stage where several stars will perform together. If Kim Junsu participates in this performance, it could overlap with JYJ's performance. We are currently finalizing the details."

For the C-JeS executives, this promise was not enough.

"If you try to say that JYJ appearing at the event before the opening ceremony is keeping the promise with us, you are trying to cover the sky with your hands," the label's statement read.

"Anyone with common sense will find it hard to accept that the singer [Kim Junsu] who has promoted the Incheon Asian Games for over a year and sang the theme song will only appear in the pre-ceremony event."

One could hardly blame the C-JeS executives for erring on the side of paranoia.

One year ago, the Korea Fair Trade Commission (FTC) ordered the record label SM Entertainment to stop impeding the JYJ's career in an official agency sanction.

A representative from the FTC explained that the label, along with help from the Korean Federation of Pop Culture and Art Industry (KFPCAI), started a campaign against JYJ after the three bandmates left SM Entertainment boy band TVXQ in 2009, over a contract dispute.

"Despite JYJ's high album sales, their activities as a group were restricted in Korea, and they had to promote through areas where SM's influence was less [pervasive] like dramas, musicals, and advertisements," the FTC rep said.

In addition to blacklisting the group from television performances, SM Entertainment SM Entertainment executives also reportedly asked Warner Music Korea to stop distributing JYJ's debut album "The Beginning."
