Demand For INFINITE Concert Tickets Leads To Interpark Employee Ticket Fraud

Tickets to INFINITE's concert are so desirable that people will do anything to sell them for a huge profit.

Most K-Pop concert tickets aren't always the cheapest, but when fans realized how expensive tickets were selling for, a staff member at one of Korea's largest ticket-selling sites was in trouble.

Korea's most popular ticketing site, Interpark, had a special sale for INFINITE's fanclub members only on July 7.  Fanclub members were able to purchase tickets earlier than normal fans to INFINITE's That Summer 2 Concert.

While some tickets were sold online to eager fans at a large markup, most of INFINITE's official fans bought the tickets for themselves since fanclub members were only allowed to buy one ticket apiece, for each day of the concert.

7,000 tickets went on sale, but they were still hard to come by for fans who aren't official rmembers of the INSPIRIT fanclub, or else weren't quick enough to buy tickets.

So when a large number of tickets started to be sold on social networking sites and online forums, it raised a number of flags.

Once fans looked up the seller's name and realized that he worked for Interpark, it became clear that he must have taken several of the tickets out of the fanclub sales. Since all of the 7,000 put up for sale on July 7 were sold out, this type of fraud meant that someone inside Interpark was taking advantage of the fans still eager to buy tickets.

On July 9, Interpark issued a statement confirming that a new employee used his authority to purchase tickets that were meant for the fanclub sale, and then sold them off of Interpark.

Interpark has said that the employee will be penalized, but hasn't made public whether or not the employee will be fired.

Concert ticket fraud is rampant all over the world, but particularly in Korea thanks to the dedication of fans and the rapid pace at which concerts often sell out. High profile ticket sale fraud has made headlines in the past, particularly with groups like Big Bang and EXO.

Interpark and other ticket-selling agencies in Korea warned fans to buy their tickets only from legal outlets, but K-Pop fans from all over the world buy and resell tickets, so it doesn't seem that ticket fraud will stop anytime soon.
