Is Wendy Leaving Red Velvet? Actors in Upcoming Music Video Call Her a 'Former Member'

On October 27, Mystic Story released the teaser for Son Tae Jin and Wendy's upcoming single "Be Deep," which is slated to be released on October 29. The music video features two Korean-American actors, John D. Michaels and Amy Woo.

The two took to Instagram to announce their appearance.

What surprised many people, however, was that both actors called Wendy, a former member of Red Velvet.

Amy Woo wrote, "MV for Son Tae Jin and Wendy (formerly of Red Velvet) drops Fri!"

Meanwhile, John D. Michaels wrote, "Promo shot for the new music video from Son Tae Jin and Wendy (formerly of Red Velvet)."

As both actors used the term "formerly of Red Velvet," many were left confused, as there had been no announcement that Wendy had left the girl group.

Irene, Seulgi, Wendy, and Joy debuted with Red Velvet in August 2014, while Yeri joined the group in 2015. Their exclusive contract with SM Entertainment is expiring this year, but SM Entertainment has yet to announce whether the members have re-signed with the company.

A recent investor report listed Red Velvet's contract renewal as active for the fourth quarter of 2021 (September to December), so it is likely the members may not have decided whether to renew the contract yet.

However, investor articles are generally viewed as assumptions, and there is no guarantee this information is accurate.

As nothing has been announced yet, many are confused about why Wendy was called a former member of Red Velvet. Some speculate that the actors may have just been confused, as it is often rare for an artist to have a solo career while still active with the group.

However, some believe that this is a sign that Red Velvet's main vocalist will depart from SM Entertainment.

The two actors have since edited their post to call Wendy a member of Red Velvet after ReveLuvs (Red Velvet's fan base) flooded their comments, asking them to change their caption. This has caused many to believe the caption may be a simple mistake by both actors.

In a Bubble update, Yeri revealed that Red Velvet is preparing for a comeback in Japan, showing that the group is still releasing music together.

Regardless of the outcome of the group's contract negotiations, many hope that the information concerning the future of Red Velvet will be revealed soon.
