Mnet Reveals Plans For Female-Centered Hip-Hop Program

Watch out for some serious girl power! A new Mnet music show is in the works and will reportedly focus on female hip-hop artists.

The new show will be a follow up to the reality competition program Show Me the Money, but will center around female rappers, accoring to an Mnet representative.

"[Mnet is] currently planning a program with female rappers as the focus," said the rep in a statement to Korean media outlet Newsen on November 20. "We are still in talks over the exact format, title, and broadcast date for the hip-hop program that will follow Show Me The Money."

The upcoming music show is still in the planning stages, so details pertaining to the structure are still unknown. "Because the format has not been decided yet, it is too early to call it a survival [show]," explained the Mnet rep. "It could be in the form of a [rap] battle."

Mnet is hoping to tap into the pool of talent in Korea where few women have successfully entered the hip-hop genre. "There are a lot of hidden female rappers in Korea," said the rep. "We are currently recruiting contestants."

Show Me The Money is a survival show for male artists who focus on hip-hop and rap. While the structure is similar to other reality music programs such as KpopStar and Super Star K, the genre focus has stood to separate it from the others.

The female-centered hip-hop show is in the works for 2015.
