Former GLAM Vocalist Kim Dahee Apologizes To Actor Lee Byung Hun At Appeal Hearing For Allegedly Trying To Blackmail Him

On Thursday, singer Kim Dahee of the now-defunct K-pop girl group GLAM appeared alongside South Korean model Lee Ji Yeon in Seoul Central District Court to appeal a year-long prison sentence handed down by the court back in January.

Kim and Lee were convicted of attempting to blackmail Korean actor Lee Byung Hun with what was allegedly a graphic conversation filmed on a smartphone, according to the Korean entertainment news website allkpop.

"Through this incident, I came to realize how foolish this was," Dahee reportedly said.

"I want to sincerely apologize to the victim and his family.  I never knew I would show such a foolish side to myself like this to the parents who raised me well.  [I wish to say] I'm sorry to everyone."

Lee also pled for forgiveness from the plaintiff.

"I sincerely apologize to Lee Byung Hun and his family," she said. "I am truly reflecting a lot.  I have nothing to say, except that I'm sorry."

But Seoul's prosecuting attorney claimed the apologies were only for show and called for three-year long prison sentences instead of the 12 month and 14 month sentences (two additional months for Lee) handed down in the original verdict.

"They are not sincerely reflecting," the lawyer said.

"The two of them deliberately planned out the crime and, while sending in letters of apology, claimed that precise details of the crime were different from the truth. So, it is hard to view this as sincere self-reflection.  Let's terminate the decision made in the original trial and put in place a heavy punishment like the one requested in the original trial."

Yet, it would appear not all hope is lost for the two alleged blackmailers. In a statement on Thursday, the plaintiff's private attorney told the press that his client is eager to find a resolution that doesn't put anyone behind bars.

"It was a random crime and if you look in the video, the fear that Lee Byung Hun felt seems minor," the lawyer reportedly stated.

"At the appeal court, Lee Byung Hun expressed his desire to reach an agreement because he did not want them to be punished."

Originally debuting in 2012, GLAM disbanded back in January after the news of blackmailing charges against Dahee broke.

The group's label Big Hit Entertainment never confirmed that the band's breakup was due to the allegations against Dahee, calling the termination of GLAM a unanimous decision made by the band members.

"GLAM is dismantling. They recently nullified the contract," read a Big Hit statement from Jan. 15.

"Upon their request, we nullified the contract and we have not discussed the matter of what the members will do now."
