Epik High's Tour Announcement Via Snapchat Highlights The Social Media Platform's Growing Popularity Among K-Pop Acts

Snapchat seems to be growing in popularity as a platform where K-Pop acts can connect with fans and even announce their upcoming events, as with Epik High, who recently dropped the details of their upcoming U.S. tour on the image-sharing app.

Several idols such as miss A member Min and f(x) member Amber have also been revealed to have Snapchat accounts in recent months, and both have made it public, allowing fans to see their updates, reports Allkpop.

Snapchat users can also start following BTOB member Peniel, as the Korean-American male idol, too, has made his Snapchat account public, reports Koreaboo.

Snapchat, by default, only allows a user's added friends to see their Snaps, which tend to be selfie picture updates.

Epik High stands out by using the platform more creatively. On April 5, Epik High member Tablo revealed on Twitter the group's Snapchat ID along with a teaser image of a rubber duck bearing the tour date teaser message.

Then a few days later, Epik High again used Snapchat to reveal the dates, cities and locations of their 2015 North American tour which will span from late May when the tour begins in San Francisco to mid-June when the tour holds its final concert stop in Toronto.

While K-Pop acts seem to prefer Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to promote and keep in touch with fans, it is no surprise that they are also diving into Snapchat given its large user base.

As of early 2014, Snapchat is the 10th most popular app in the Apple App Store, and one of the most popular image-sharing apps in the world due to its privacy-oriented user settings.

It is estimated that more than 26 to 30 million of its users are in the United States, with more than 100 million users worldwide sharing over 400 million snaps daily, reportedly surpassing both Facebook and Instagram, notes SearchEngineJournal.
