Taylor Swift Supports Kesha With $250,000 Donation Hours After Demi Lovato Calls For "#FreeKesha Action

Taylor Swift donated $250,000 to Kesha "in a show of support." The donation was announced 18 hours after Demi Lovato called out Swift for not publicly acknowledging Kesha's case against Sony and the music producer.

A New York Supreme Court judge ruled that Kesha cannot opt out of her contract with Dr. Luke-the producer who allegedly drugged and sexually abused her on multiple occasions.

Kesha claims Dr. Luke "sexually, physically, verbally and emotionally abused" her for nearly 10 years, starting at age 18 when she signed on with his Sony-subsidiary label, Kemosabe Records in 2005 In a lawsuit filed in October 2014.

"Dr. Luke has been tyrannical and abusive since our relationship began," Kesha said in a August 2015 affidavit.

"I specifically remember him telling me that if I ever tried to get away from him for any reason that he would tie me up in litigation until my career was over."

"In a show of support, Taylor Swift has donated $250,000 to Kesha to help with any of her financial needs during this trying time," said Tree Paine, Swift's spokesperson, in a statement.

Kesha requested an injunction to make music outside her six-album contract with Dr. Luke's Kemosabe Records. On Friday, New York Supreme Court Justice Shirley Kornreich sided with Dr. Luke and Sony.

"A persons wealth is not measured by what they have but by WHO they help with it," Pebe Sebert, Kesha's mother, tweeted.

"And Taylor Swift is a truly RICH PERSON. Thank you." Sebert added: "Most important for Kesha, is that these beautiful, powerful women are standing behind her, letting the world see how powerful the truth is!"

Celebrities including Lady Gaga, Demi Lovato, Lorde, Fiona Apple, Kelly Clarkson tweeted support for Kesha.

Demi Lovato wrote a series of tweets supporting Kesha.

"#FreeKesha. This is only gonna make you stronger, you brave and beautiful girl," Lovato tweeted.

"Prayers are with you. Frustrating to see women come forward with their past only to be shot down, not believed and disrespected for their bravery in taking action. Happens way too often. I'm ready for women to be taken just as seriously as men. Someone tell me why anyone would ever feel brave enough to come forward if they are most likely to be ignored or called a liar?"
