CL Won't Stop Until She 'Breaks America', Get's Feautured on CNN Style

CL of the ever popular k-pop girl group 2NE1 had recently worked with CNN Style for a short documentary video featuring the bona fide Korean superstar herself and the journey she is making all for the purpose of breaking into the US music industry.

Now it is no secret that CL has her eyes and heart set on penetrating that thick barrier that makes it hard for k-pop superstars to break into the US and sustain a long-lasting career there. Well, there have been exemptions to that barrier, particularly her fellow YG label mate Psy who shot to international fame and stardom with his infamous single 'Gangnam Style'. But as of late, people are yet to hear from him.

Unlike Psy, though, CL is working from the ground up and slowly making her way to the top. That's how serious she is.

According to Allkpop, the short documentary video was directed by Grammy-award winner Dave Meyers and it follows CL as she moves around in New York while sharing her thoughts on various topics and issues all of which relate to her. On the stereotypes that come with being an Asian star, CL revealed that for the last two years one of her biggest struggles is how people look at Asian girls.

"I'm not a thing. I am not a doll." CL says in the video.

Being a k-pop queen and the leader of one of the most internationally successful k-pop groups in the world has done a lot of things for CL when it comes to exposure. She is famous in several parts of the world and in many different continents. The singer-rapper is notorious for her so-called 'bad' girl image, is a fashion icon and a known trendsetter in Asia. So there is no denying that all on her own, CL is already a powerful force.

"CL isn't just a Korean or Asian phenomenon." Acclaimed fashion designer Jeremy Scott tells CNN Style. "She is a global superstar."

In the US, though, it's a different story. "Right now, my fans are just kids on the internet." CL says. "They're basically everywhere and I am truly happy if I could inspire them or even if they hate me because it takes a lot of effort and energy to hate someone and I definitely appreciate it."

But the 25-year old singer-rapper is set on breaking into America no matter the struggles she has faced and as documented by CNN Style, the 'Lifted' singer was quick to emphasize that.

"I've put so much time and energy that I feel like I have to do it and I want to do it right. That is why it's taking so long."
