YG Entertainment confirms their artists' absence on MAMA 2016; find out why!

For many years now, YG artists have always been known to dominate the MAMA stage. However, this year it would seem that MAMA would be up for some big changes as it has been announced by YG Entertainment themselves that their artists would not be attending the highly anticipated annual event.

The Mnet Asian Music Awards is one of the most highly publicized events in the world of k-pop and Korean music. In fact, it is one of the most prestigious award giving bodies in South Korea alongside the Golden Disk Awards, Seoul Music Awards and the Melon Music Awards. Being a part of MAMA presents numerous opportunities for k-pop idols and stars in terms of exposure. Furthermore, being invited to the event as either performer, guest, or both is an honor in itself. But then again, this would not be the first time that YG Entertainment would shy away from an event, so this news doesn't really come as surprising.

According to Soompi, a source from said "YG has ultimately decided that its artists won't be attending the 2016 MAMA which would be held at the AsiaWorld-Expo in Hong Kong on December 2." The source cited the busy schedules of their artists as the primary reason for their absence from the event. "Our artists would have a difficult time attending the MAMA event let alone prepare a performance as they have tight schedules for the month of December. The news had already been passed on to Mnet regarding this matter."

So many fans have been excited about MAMA 2016 hoping they would be able to catch either BLACKPINK or iKON perform. However, chances for that to happen are at zero. A number of YG artists are nominated for various awards. BLACKPINK has been leading in the votes so far in one of the categories. The rookie girl group is nominated for Best New Female and Best Video. Other YG artists nominated are Psy for Best Male Singer, Lee Hi for Best Female Singer, MOBB with their song "Hit Me" for Best Collaboration, and all of the above mentioned along with iKON for Artist of the Year. Hit Me is also nominated for Song of the Year, as reported by iTech Post.

It truly is disappointing to know that some of the hottest stars today won't be making an attendance but you'd still be able to catch your favorite YG artists in other events. YG Entertainment also clarified that there was no bad blood between them and Mnet, just to clear things up.
