According to Seoul Daily News, "Legend of the Blue Sea" Episode 4 marked a new chapter as the mermaid meets with Joon-Jae again in Seoul. The episode also tells a background story of Joon-Jae and his estranged mother, who is now working as a maid.

The mermaid was named Sim-Chung in the "Legend of the Blue Sea" Episode 4. During a scene in the house, Joon-Jae and his partner-in-crime Nam-Doo asked her name. The mermaid said she doesn't have aname and asked him to give her one. So Joon-Jae named her Sim-Chung, which means "very stupid" in Korean (심청).
