‘Legend of the Blue Sea’ takes serious lead in viewership ratings

SBS' romantic comedy “Legend of the Blue Sea” took a serious lead in viewership ratings. The romantic comedy outperformed other dramas in the Wednesday and Thursday slots.

Being a highly-anticipated drama, “Legend of the Blue Sea” has taken television ratings by storm. This is the first time two highly-acclaimed actor and actress Lee Min-Ho and Jun Ji-Hyun have been paired. The first two episodes scored incredibly-high ratings in Korea.

“Legend of the Blue Sea” Episode 2, aired on Thursday November 17, scored 16.2% of viewership ratings in TnMS and 15.1% in AGB Nielsen Korea. In the Seoul Metropolitan area, according to Seoul Daily News, the drama even reached 20%.

One particular scene was reported to attract the highest rating from the audience - the kissing scene between Lee and Jun. The production team crafted the idea of them kissing in an underwater scene, which scored the highest rating of 18.8%, according to KBS official release.

Lee and Jun showcased their acting skills in the “Legend of the Blue Sea,” which pleased the audience.

Viewers can see Lee showing his elegant poise when playing the Joseon era nobleman Dam-Ryung, who released the mermaid Sim Chung - then captured by fishermen. Later, he transformed his demeanor to become sleazy and superficial as con artist Heo Joon-Jae in the present time.

Meanwhile his six-year senior Jun delivered her best acting quality. Her inaudible scenes in the first two episodes showed her quality as a great actress.

The drama is also accompanied with a good original soundtrack (OST) music. The first song, which brings audience to sentimental mood, was “Love Story” - sung by one of the most beloved R&B singers in Korea, Lynn.
