4 Controversial Issues Surrounding ‘Produce 101’ Season 2

Mnet's "Produce 101" Season 2 has produced multiple controversies prior to its release. However, that doesn't necessarily mean that the show has lost its fun. Instead, viewers are getting hooked to see what the show has in store following lots of surprising news and rumors surrounding it. Discrimination Scandal

Weeks before "Produce 101" Season 2 kicks off, trainees' agencies, especially from the lower groups, reveal that their trainees had been treated poorly. The trainees from lower groups received an unfair treatment from the staffs, especially about foods and bathroom privileges. The agencies accused the production staffs only prioritized trainees from Group A.

Bullying Scandal        

One of "Produce 101" Season 2 contestant, Yoon Yong Bin, was involved in a bullying scandal. A person that knows him since childhood reveals that Yoon Yong Bin used to bully her and her disabled elder brother. Some people also claimed that she's traumatized by what Yoon Yong Bin did to her in the past that she's not able to function socially. Meanwhile, Yoon Yong Bin's agency has denied all the allegations and accused the person intentionally creates the rumor to destroy its reputation.

Nationality Issue

"Produce 101" Season 2 trainee from Cube Entertainment, Lai Guan Lin, received criticism because of his nationality. The controversy sparked as Lai Guan Lin wrote that he's from "China's Taiwan". Multiple Taiwanese newspaper has reported this issue, creating backlashes and anger within the Taiwanese community as Lai Guan Lin remark has disgraced Taiwan as an independent country.

Assault Scandal

Lee So Kyu, one of the contestants of "Produce 101" Season 2" recently revealed that he was assaulted by his old group members, Naughty Boys last year. The three members were charged with assault during the time they're promoting as Pure Boys.

"Produce 101" Season 2 currently scores the highest rating for non-drama category. The Mnet show scored 15.32% on its premiere.
