D.O. is the Second EXO Member to Enlist in the Military

Following Xiumin's enlistment last May 7, D.O. will become the second member of K-pop group EXO to serve in the military.

According to his group's agency, SM Entertainment, the 26-year-old singer will be enlisting in July.

"D.O. applied to serve in the military and received the notice for his July 1 enlistment date...[He] is planning to faithfully serve as an active duty soldier," the statement read.

The entertainment giant also noted that "D.O. expressed his will to fulfill his military duties as soon as possible and applied after fully discussing it with the agency and his members."

As the K-pop megastar also "hopes to enlist quietly," the company said that they will not "reveal the time and location of his enlistment as well as hold any separate events on his enlistment date."

Before his fellow member Xiumin entered the military, SM Entertainment staged a fan meeting for him with his co-members - including D.O. - surprising him on stage to memorably send him off.

Meanwhile, with the news of D.O.'s enlistment reaching K-pop fans across the globe, the singer took to social media his sincere gratitude for his and his group's supporters.

"I sincerely thank EXO-Ls who are always supportive. I hope that everyone will always be healthy and have days filled with things that will make you laugh," he remarked.

He also apologized for the sudden news, saying "I wanted to first share the news with you, so I have a heavy heart because I feel like it's a little late... I wanted to let you know that as much as this decision was made after lots of consideration, I will return after serving healthily and safely."

Together with the other lads from EXO, D.O. debuted back in January 2012. Seven years after, they have amassed a huge following in South Korea and beyond with their musicality, stage charisma, and distinctive fashion sense.

The nine-piece act delivered smash hits like "Ko Ko Bop," "Growl," "Tempo," and "Love Shot."

D.O. also forayed into the field of acting, official debuting in 2014 through the movie called "Cart." He also appeared in the hit drama series "It's Okay, That's Love," which earned him a "Best New Actor" award during the 51st Baeksang Art Awards.

He then landed on his first small-screen leading role with the TVN drama, "100 Days My Prince" (2018), starring alongside Nam Ji Hyun.
