Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the limited face-to-face contact within K-pop fans and idols affected the entertainment industry the most, nevertheless, the music scene strived well with the new non-contact way of promoting K-pop artists such as doing online concerts and fan meetings, as well as the digital release of tracks and albums. 

Though there are successful comebacks and debut news of several K-pop groups this 2020, this year became hard and tough for those who were involved in controversies and issues, but there are also news that truly give joy to K-pop fans and supporters. 

As a year-end list, the following topics became the most trending news this year, and though it is bittersweet, these memories made the K-pop artists and fans stronger and prepared them for a hopeful 2021.

The introduction of EXO Chen of his family life to the public truly received a lot of negative feedback, that lead antis and haters to demand him to leave EXO.

However, true EXO-Ls congratulated him affirmed him by their love and supports. Even SM Entertainment and EXO confirmed that Chen will remain as a member of the group, lambasting the demand. 

3. ZICO's "Any Song" Release + Challenge

"Any Song" was released by Zico in January and showed off its ripple effect online on the "Dance Challenge" wind on the video-sharing app TikTok.  "Anyone's Song" also became familiar to the public due to its witty lyrics and humorous and cheerful melodies. 

Some of the idols who joined the challenge are MAMAMOO Hwasa, Chung Ha, Park Shin Hye, WINNER Song Min Ho, Les Hyori, and more.

5. BTS, First Korean Group to Achieve US Billboard's Hot 100

BTS became the first-ever Korean artist that ranked as No.1 on of the highest music chart, Billboard's "Hot 100."

This is after the release of their mega-hit English track, "Dynamite" that didn't only dominate the local fans but attracted the interest of global music fans as well. 

6.. BLACKPINK First Full-Length Album + Jennie Outfit Issue

BLACKPINK released its first full-length album "THE ALBUM" in October. "The Album" became the first million-seller for a K-pop girl group to sell more than 1.2 million copies as of Oct. 26.

The most awaited album of the girl group was almost perfect, not until Korean netizens expressed their anger over BLACKPINK's Jennie nurse outfit in their "Lovesick Girls," MV that allegedly disrespected the occupation of nurses. YG Entertainment then releases their apology and edited out the part of Jennie where she wore the uniform. 

7.  Red Velvet Irene Attitude Controversy

In October, Red Velvet's Irene was embroiled in a controversy over her attitude. This is after a stylist for 15 years revealed that the idol disrespected her and verbally abuse her. 

Irene apologized sincerely online, and SM Entertainment also confirmed that Irene met with the stylist personally. In 2021, the group is expected to have their return, "with a mature look."

8. Aespa Debut + Yoo Jimin Issue

Aespa is the first girl group to launch in six years by SM Entertainment after Red Velvet. 

Before their debut, they had received numerous negative rumors and issues including leader KARINA's (Yoo Jimin) personality controversy. 

Also, the group was criticized for their visuals and concept, introducing AI (Artificial Intelligence) members. 

However, after their debut, their debut song "Black Mamba" ranked 100th on the Billboard Global (excluding the U.S.) chart for the fourth week of November, marking the highest debut song for K-pop artists.
