BTS, TWICE, and More: Here Are The Winners of The 30th Seoul Music Awards

On Sunday, Jan. 31, the 30th Seoul Music Awards was held at the KSPO Dome. Keep on reading to see who took home awards.

The 30th Seoul Music Awards was hosted by Girls' Generation member Sooyoung, Super Junior member Kim Heechul, and Shin Dong Yup.

The ceremony is a little different from the 29th Seoul Music Awards. In the previous award ceremony, the Daesang (grand prize) was divided into two categories. However, this was changed for this year's award ceremony, awarding just one Daesang and then separating the "Best Album and "Best Song Awards."

To determine who wins the Daesang award, they take into account an artist's' digital and album sales, online vote, and a final judgment by a panel of judges of the award ceremony.

Unsurprisingly, BTS took home the Daesang. They also scored the "Best Album Award," "Best Song Award," "The K-Wave Award," "The WhosFandom Awards," and a "Bonsang' award. In 2020, BTS won the "Album Daesang." This is the fourth year in a row that BTS has taken home a Daesang.

Seoul Music Awards' Criteria and History - Who Got the Most Wins?

The Seoul Music Awards, which is also known as the High1 Seoul Music Awards of the Seoul Gayo Daesang, is one of South Korea's major award shows. It was founded in 1990 and is presented every year by Sports Seoul. The awards ceremony pays homage to all the outstanding achievements of South Korea's music industry.

Winners are selected from nominees who have released albums during the years, taking into account 30% of mobile votes and 40% digital downloads and album sales. Other categories, however, rely on 100% of judges' scores.

In the Seoul Music Award's history, EXO is the artist with the most wins. Throughout the boy group's career, EXO has snagged 22 awards. BTS trails after them, scoring 20 wins from the awards ceremony. Next up is Super Junior with 14 Seoul Music Awards wins. Girls' Generation and SHINee are tied at fifth place with 12 wins each.

BIGBANG is the only YG Entertainment artist in the top 9 in terms of most wins, with 11 awards bagged. TVXQ follows after them, with 8 Seoul Music Awards wins. Tied in eighth place is SISTAR and TWICE, who have each taken home 7 wins. On ninth place, BEAST and Red Velvet are tied with 6 wins from the award ceremony.
