IU Dominates Top 5 of MelOn 24Hits, Becomes First Korean Artist to do so since Chart's Launch
IU has splendidly dominated the Top 5 of MelOn 24Hits with her new songs from her new album "LILAC." With this, she has become the very first Korean artist to obtain this milestone since MelOn launched 24Hits!
In May last year, MelOn made big changes in its chart system and includes the launching of the 24Hits chart, which replaced the regular "real-time" chart. It tabulates a song's cumulative streams instead of the real-time plays.
IU Returns with New Album "LILAC", Dominates Top 5 of MelOn 24Hits
On March 25 at 6:00 p.m. KST, IU has come back to the K-pop scene with her new fifth studio album titled "LILAC."
Her new album comprises a total of 10 songs including the pre-release track "Celebrity," and double title tracks "LILAC" and "Coin."
IU was the one who wrote all of the singles from her "LILAC" album, with help from a few lyricists.
IU's "Celebrity" was inspired by a friend of hers who has an eclectic fashion, various talents, and shy nature, which many people find odd and so they are throwing her hate.
Meanwhile, "LILAC" is about a couple who has been in a 10-year relationship but breaks up as spring draws closer.

This is the female artist's first full album in almost four years since her "Palette" album, which was dropped in April 2017.
IU Becomes the First Korean Artist to Dominate the Top 5 of MelOn 24Hits
Less than 24 hours since IU made her comeback, songs from her new album have entered MelOn 24Hits.
In particular, four of them managed to secure spots within the Top 5 of the music chart: "LILAC" at No. 1, "Celebrity: at No. 3, "Coin" at No. 4, and "Flu" at No. 5.

This is the first time that songs by the same singer took almost all of the spots within the Top 5. This means IU is the first Korean artist to hold four positions within the Top 5 of MelOn 24Hits since the chart was instated last year.
In addition to this, "LILAC" is now the second-fastest song by any Korean artist to reach No. 1 on MelOn 24Hits. The song only took 16 hours after release to claim the No. 1 spot on the music chart. It follows IU's "Celebrity" which only took three hours to be on the top of the said chart.

Another impressive record is that IU's "Celebrity" and "LILAC" are the only songs to enter MelOn 24Hits with more than 100,000 unique listeners in the first hour of release.
And as of 1:30 p.m. KST on March 26, all tracks from IU's "LILAC" album have entered the Top 15 of MelOn 24Hits. "Spring hello spring" is at No. 6, "Troll" featuring Dean at No. 8, "My Sea" at No. 9, "Empty Cup" at No. 11, "Ah Puh" at No. 13, and "Epilogue" at No. 15.
Furthermore, "LILAC," "Coin," and "Flu" even entered MelOn's old real-time chart following release.
