IU Shares How She Overcame Her Self-Hatred

During their talk, IU opens up about struggling from self-hatred and learning to love herself when she was younger, "I had a lot of self-hatred when I was young. Even if I was able to achieve good results, it was difficult to learn to love yourself. Turning 25 years old was the starting point of my life."

"The reason I wrote the lyrics 'I think I know myself a little bit now' was because I felt like there was nothing that could make me more disappointed or surprised with myself. I was able to accept both my shortcomings and strengths. I can now love myself," said IU and referring to the chorus of her song "Palette."

IU also shares the inspiration behind her ballad, "Through the Night," released in 2017.

"I was having a hard time sleeping back then. Since I could not sleep well, the words 'sleep well' was a sincerity of my feelings. Because back then, I would feel sad if someone fell asleep before me," she said.

IU adds that whenever she and her friends would stop talking because they went to sleep, she would find it difficult to support their sleep. She continues, "I became stingy with the words 'sleep well', but I wrote those lyrics because I thought that if there is someone I really love, I would wish they had a good night's sleep regardless of whether I had difficulty in sleeping."

IU's Younger Brother Pretends Not to Know Her

IU also reveals that her younger brother, who has recently enlisted in the military, hides the truth that he is related to the "Hotel Del Luna" actress from his peers.

"It's been about two weeks since my younger brother went to the army. He has lived his entire life hiding the truth that I am his older sister," IU revealed.

She explains that only her younger brother's closest friends know of his relation with the singer, "He only told about four to five of his closest friends. He's still keeping it a secret."

She makes everyone laugh by sharing how she and her brother look alike and that it is well known that his name is Lee Jong Hoon.

"My younger brother and I look alike, and his name is Lee Jong Hoon. Since his name is well known, others seemed to be suspicious. However, he said he is still pretending not to notice."

When asked what she hears the most from her brother, she explains that they don't talk much.

"Then what do you say the most to your brother?" Yoo Jae Suk revises.

"I tell my brother that we really look alike on my bad days," IU says, making everyone laugh again.
