WJSN's Comeback Success Summarized by Fans in Three Points

WJSN (Cosmic Girls) successfully made their comeback with "Unnatural," their latest mini-album since last June's "Neverland" - and fans identified three points that made it an instant success.

Its return was marked by a wide-reaching promotion campaign that included music video teasers, concept photos, and even the release of a "hidden film." Shortly after "Unnatural" dropped on March 31, it was accompanied by a music video for the title track of the same name, and a string of well-received music show performances - with the Cosmic Girls recently scoring their first music show win at the SBS MTV program "The Show."

Now, fans identify three points that might have spelled the success for WJSN and their ninth mini-album "Unnatural," compiled by the K-pop group's talent management agency, Starship Entertainment.

Individual and Unit Activities Leading to Their Comeback After 9 Months

Since "Neverland" dropped last June, Cosmic Girls has remained relatively busy promoting both as a group and through its sub-units. Some members were also able to pursue solo projects in television, and in other groups' releases.

Soobin, Dayoung, Yeorum, and Luda together debuted under WJSN Chocome - the group's newest subunit - last October 7 with the single album "Hmph!" to critical and commercial success. The group's leader and main rapper Exy, who has previously worked as a songwriter and composer for the WJSN single "Tra-La," also received songwriting credits for CRAVITY - her fellow Starship Entertainment talents. Exy worked on the songs "My Turn" and "Bad Habits," songs appearing in the boy group's third mini-album "Season 3. Hideout: Be Out Voice."

Seola collaborated with Block B's Park Kyung to sing "Seesaw" as a part of the OST for the SBS television drama "Backstreet Rookie." She also made her acting debut as a part of "Goedam," the hit horror anthology on Netflix.

A New Side: Cosmic Girls' Mature Beauty Unfolds

With their previous releases, WJSN was able to show different sides to them - often capturing what the average girl feels in a variety of circumstances. WIth "Unnatural," however, the ladies exhibit class, sophistication, and maturity from their visuals in this mini-album to the lyrics of the songs themselves.

The title track, "Unnatural," sings of a girl's experiences in the face of that special someone. In its lyrics are experiences of everyday things taking an awkward turn in the presence of a particular person, leaving them with "unnatural" responses.

Even "Last Dance," one of the songs in the album, captures the Cosmic Girls' more mature side as they relive through the lyrics the end of a relationship. Song lyrics such as "When this last music is over/ only you are on this stage" give a hint with the strength and confidence need to walk away from a previous relationship.

WJSN Grows More Than Just Performers

More than their impressive vocals and synchronized choreography, WJSN members are also stepping up toward creative roles in the creation of "Unnatural." Together, Exy and Seola continued their work on "Neverland" as songwriters and composers on some tracks in "Unnatural."

Exy earned her first songwriting credit with "MoMoMo," a single from the WJSN debut EP "Would You Like?" Since then, she has written and co-written songs for WJSN as well as other artists such as Sobae for "Homegirl," Nakita Choi's "Love Professor," and CRAVITY.
