Highlight Lee Gi Kwang Comments on Their Comeback Happening Alongside Other 2nd-Generation Idol Groups Like SHINee and 2PM

Highlight Lee Gi Kwang shared his thoughts about them returning to the music scene in the same period as the other second-generation idol groups like SHINee and 2PM.

The second generation of K-pop started in 2003 until 2011. Highlight, formerly called B2ST or BEAST, debuted back in 2009 with their first single titled "Bad Girl." Meanwhile, SHINee and 2PM both debuted in 2008.

On May 3, Highlight made their first comeback in about three years since November 2018 when they dropped their "OUTRO" album. The four members, namely Doo Joon, Yo Seob, Gi Kwang, and Dong Woon, are now active in the industry after completing their mandatory military service.

All four members were discharged from the military last year, with Dong Woon being the last member to return home.

On the same day, the quartet participated in an online press conference to commemorate the release of their third mini-album, "The Blowing." During the interview, Highlight Lee Gi Kwang shared his thoughts about being able to come back alongside the other second-generation idol groups.

He said that it feels good to see that Highlight is returning to the music scene in the same period as the K-pop groups who are in the same generation as them. Lee Gi Kwang mentioned SHINee, who recently finished promotions for their two albums "Don't Call Me" and "Atlantis." The Highlight member also took note of 2PM making a comeback soon.

Gi Kwang added that they are gaining strength as they see SHINee and 2PM being active in the K-pop industry once again. He also expressed his hope of reaching the public with their own music.

Highlight Do Joon then thanked SHINee Minho. He shared that Minho contacted him when he enlisted in the military, so he did the same thing to the SHINee member. He continued that they also contacted each other after they have completed their military service.

Do Joon further stated that he and Minho are not very close but they are always cheering for each other. The Highlight member went on to say that whenever he watches SHINee's promotions, he feels good and supports them a lot. Highlight Do Joon also expressed his hope of winning in music shows.

Highlight's Comeback with "The Blowing" Album

Meanwhile, Highlight is set to make their comeback later today, May 3, at 6 p.m. KST. Doo Joon, Yo Seob, Gi Kwang, and Dong Woon will release their new mini-album, "The Blowing."

"The Blowing" is an album conveying the message of the Highlight members returning to the K-pop scene after a long hiatus. In the album's title track, "NOT THE END," member Lee Gi Kwang participated in the lyric-writing and composition. Fans can also expect a music video for "NOT THE END" to be dropped at the same time as the album release.

Five more songs are included in the album, titled "WAVE, "It's Night," Sorry" Disconnected," and "Surf." These songs are expected to capture the attention of the public.
