Boyfriend Will Release a Special Single to Celebrate their 10th Debut Anniversary

On May 10, media outlets reported that Starship Entertainment's former boy group Boyfriend will return as a full group to celebrate their 10th debut anniversary. Donghyun, Youngmin, Hyunseong, Kwangmin, Minwoo, and Jeongmin will drop a special single for their fans, collectively called Best Friend.

The single will be the boy group's first release in three years since their last track, "Fox Rain" or "Sunshower," which they dropped on May 25 for their seventh debut anniversary.

Ahead of the launch, Boyfriend created an Instagram account where they post new photos and videos. On May 3, the boy band uploaded their first photo showing all six members. In the caption, they asked fans to send images and videos from their previous promotions as they will be making something special for the fans.

The submission of files concluded on Sunday, May 9. Meanwhile, Boyfriend's special single is due out on May 26, the day of their debut.

Boyfriend is a six-piece boy group that debuted on May 26, 2011, under Starship Entertainment. The members are Minwoo, Hyunseong, Donghyun, Jeongmin, plus the twins Youngmin and Kwangmin. The band released a single album titled "Boyfriend," featuring the title track of the same name.

The boy band went on to release two more single albums in 2011, "Don't Touch My Girl" in October and "I'll Be There" in December. The latter peaked at No. 2 on the Gaon Music Chart.

In early 2012, Boyfriend took home three rookie awards at three various awards ceremonies in Korea. They grabbed the "Best New Artist" award at the SBS MTV Best of the Best and the 26th Golden Disc Awards. Meanwhile, they got the "Best Newcomer Award" at the 21st Seoul Music Awards.

Also, in 2012, the male group made their debut in Japan with a special album entitled "We Are Boyfriend." They went on to sing their first original soundtrack, "Only You," for the South Korean television series "The King 2 Hearts."

In 2013, Boyfriend became the first foreign artist to sing a theme song for an anime. They recorded the track "Hitomi no Melody" for the well-known anime series "Detective Conan." The song became so popular that it ranked within the top 5 of the Oricon Chart for six consecutive days, peaking at No. 2.

Boyfriend officially disbanded on May 17, 2019. For almost nine years, the group released four studio albums, six mini-albums, two compilation albums, 24 singles, four soundtrack albums, and three collaboration singles. Their bestselling album is "Janus," which sold more than 30,000 copies following its release in November 2012.

The band is known for their hit songs such as "Janus," "I Yah," "Love Style," "Don't Touch My Girl," "On & On," and "I'll Be There."
